Build your website, build your empire

This is part 2 to Common Marketing Mistakes.

There is also a video short on this topic.

Guys, the dot.com craze is still a thing, albeit at this point in time, it’s a way of life. If you have a business but not a website, what are you even doing? If you have a website, but no social media presence, you are missing out.

OK, no judgements, I’m here to help you. But in case you’re wondering:

Social media does not take the place of a professional website.

  • Facebook does not take the place of a professional website.

  • Instagram does not take the place of a professional website.

  • LinkedIn does not take the place of a professional website.

  • TikTok does not take the place of a professional website.

  • And for those of you in the back,
Twitter [X] does not take the place of a professional website.

If I left one out, and you’re wondering, the answer is “YES, that one too.”

If you are paying attention, High Reverie does have business profiles on each of these social media platforms, and a heavy presence at that (some heavier than others). But, it is not my home on the internet. It’s simply necessary to be active on these platforms to find and engage with my audience.

It’s 2024 and the grand majority of the general public is on social media. It’s a useful (although not always accurate) tool to discover the latest news, trends, learn new skills, be entertained, find new brands, products, services, and general trivial information. This is why marketing relies heavily on these platforms. The best/worst thing about it is all this can be done while engaging with others about endless topics of discussion, which is also marketing, or in other words, “word of mouth”.

I like to think of my presence on the internet much like the real estate market. Your social media is rented space, while your website is homeownership.

This is particularly important to understand if you’re in a regulated market like cannabis, alcohol, and all the services in between. On your website [home], you can do, say, and sell whatever you want (as long as it’s legal - - laughs nervously). So many META and Tiktok accounts are getting shut down [eviction] daily. Not to mention the heavy censorship and shadow banning happening behind the scenes [arbitrary lease rules and regulations]. Imagine having tens upon thousands of followers, on Instagram and getting abruptly shut down with no warning or explanation. Even after you have been diligently making sure your posts are modestly compliant. If you’re in these industries, it’s probably already happened to you.

So build your website. For some companies, it’s quite possibly the foundation of your business, even if you don’t have a tech related company.

Utilize the heavy hitting social media platforms to target your audience, and talk about your brand, your product, your service, and engage with them. People LOVE that.

[EDIT: People love that at this time, for now. 01/2024]

Build your empire.
